STATEMENT OF CHAIRMAN LEROY J. JONES, JR. ON THE EXECUTIVE ORDER DISMANTLING THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION

TRENTON, NJ: Leroy J. Jones Jr., Chairman of the New Jersey Democratic State Committee, released the following statement:

“President Trump's Executive Order dismantling the Department of Education is callous and cruel. The fact that the President of the United States can take his pen and with one swipe erase school funding for millions of students is nothing short of vindictive. Vital resources that go to K-12 students -- mostly low-income students and students with disabilities -- are now simply gone because the President of the United States wants to wage war on our families, our teachers. and our public education system.

And what is most appalling to me, as a father and grandfather, is that our Republican Party here in New Jersey is cheering this on. They refuse to stand up for New Jersey families and educators. They refuse to stand up for what is right. And I hope every voter remembers this day come November when they have to make a choice for Governor: The Republican Party deserted you today, and you should remember it."

Democrats Gather to Protest Congressman Van Drew

This is from an article in the Sandpaper dated March 19th, 2025
By Eric Englund

"Various Democratic Party organizations in South Jersey converged on Republican Congressman Jeff Van Drew’s Atlantic County office on March 13, demanding he fight back against what they called '“the indiscriminate, capricious, and frankly dangerous cuts to our government services carried out by Elon Musk and his DOGE team.” '

Demand your data from DOGE

This entry is from an Email received from Jamie Raskin. We should all do this:

Dear Dennis:

Today I filed a formal demand for access to my personal data obtained by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and Elon Musk. I encourage all U.S. citizens to join me in doing the same.

Elon Musk should have been more careful in what he wished for, Dennis. DOGE recently dodged lawsuits about its seizure of citizens’ personal data by telling courts that it is a legitimate government agency entitled to extract this information. What Elon Musk apparently did not realize is that this statement triggers DOGE’s obligation to comply with citizen demands to see and—if need be—correct their personal information under the Privacy Act. It also allows every citizen to find out what other agencies or outside parties have been made privy to our information.<

Last night, the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia issued an injunction commanding DOGE to comply with citizen requests under the Freedom of Information Act. FOIA encompasses the Federal Privacy Act of 1974, which entitles any citizen to access personal information held in any U.S. government records system.

By visiting the link on my website HERE, you can fill out the Privacy Act request form and mail it in directly to DOGE. This newly recognized federal agency, which has been systematically accessing government computer data systems, now has an obligation to respond to specific information demands from any of the 340 million U.S. citizens who exercise their legal right to defend their privacy and establish the security of their personal information.

I can’t wait to see what DOGE has been doing with all of our data, and I can’t wait to see what the courts will do if DOGE refuses to comply with the District Court’s injunction.

In a democracy, as opposed to a dictatorship, assuming the powers of government carries real burdens and obligations for our officials as well as the benefits and riches the billionaires routinely seek out.

I hope you will join me in this unfolding monumental struggle for transparency and the rights of the people. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to fill out the form HERE.

With gratitude and solidarity, and nothing but great high hopes for America,

Jamie Raskin

Pink Slips for Donnie (Theidesoftrump)

On March 15th, many people will mail Donald Trump a postcard that publicly expresses our opposition to him. And we, in vast numbers, from all corners of the world, will overwhelm the man with his unpopularity and failure. We will show the media and the politicians what standing with him — and against us — means. And most importantly, we will bury the White House post office in pink slips, all informing Donnie that he’s fired.

Each of us — every protester from every march, each congress calling citizen, every boycotter, volunteer, donor, and petition signer — if each of us writes even a single postcard and we put them all in the mail on the same day, March 15th, well: you do the math.
No alternative fact or Russian translation will explain away our record-breaking, officially-verifiable, warehouse-filling flood of fury.

So, sharpen your wit, unsheathe your writing implements, and send your strongest message to ruffle Donald’s famously thin skin.
Prepare for March 15th, 2025, a day hereafter to be known as #TheIdesOfTrump.

Write one postcard. Write a dozen! Take a picture of your post cards and post it on social media tagged with #TheIdesOfTrump! Spread the word! Everyone on Earth should let Donnie know how he’s doing. They can’t build a wall high enough to stop the mail.

Then, on March 15th, mail your messages to:

President (for now) Donald J. Trump
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20500I

We can do better. We must do better.

Please listen to Bernie. If you are short on time, the details about economic inequality start at 2:00 and the details about democracy start at 5:00. At the end, he tells us we need to fight. But how, Bernie? How?

Great Bay Democrats, please post your comments. Tell us how you think we should fight to save our country.

Must Reading, Op-Ed piece that appeared in the NY Times Oct. 24, 2024

It is some really nuanced reading written by two men who have written books about how democracies fail. This particular article, as far as I'm concerned, is one that all serious Democrats should read, as well as anybody of any party who gives a hoot at all about what might be happening to us in less than two weeks.

It's a real "look in the mirror" piece, but it does explain how we've failed, and the only sliver of hope and action that we might have left.
