During his time as Mayor, Steven has shown what smart, progressive leadership can accomplish – opening a new chapter for Jersey City. Under his leadership, Jersey City became the 1st city in New Jersey — and the 6th city in the United States – to ensure paid sick leave. Mayor Steven Fulop has led the city to record economic development, benefiting families of all income levels — all without raising taxes. He’s pioneered new ideas for helping prisoners re-enter society, passed legislation to protect small businesses, encouraged more businesses to open shop, made Jersey City one of the greenest towns in the nation and he’s undertaken sweeping public safety reform with the JCPD now seen as a model for diversity across the nation.
Josh Gottheimer is running to be the lower taxes, lower costs Governor. Rooted in his Jersey Values, Josh knows that we must make Jersey more affordable for families and help address the high cost of living in New Jersey to help the state grow and thrive for the next generation. Josh is a Jersey guy, through and through. On one side, Josh’s immigrant great-grandparents, started in Linden, and then his mom, Gwenn (of blessed memory) and her parents moved to Monmouth County, where she graduated from Asbury Park High School, going onto become a teacher in Elizabeth. Josh’s dad grew up in West Orange, where he started his small business in his basement, while going to Rutgers. Josh grew up in North Caldwell and went to West Essex High School, the University of Pennsylvania, and Harvard Law School. As a kid, Josh helped customers at his dad’s store, spending time at the shore and the Meadowlands, and catching a Springsteen show every chance he could get (and still does)! I’m Sean Spiller and I am running for Governor of New Jersey to give all of us a voice. For too long, millionaires, Wall Street interests, and an entrenched political class have called the shots in our state, leaving the rest of us behind. No more. As an educator, I believe deeply in the transformative power of a quality education. It’s time to make sure that public schools provide every child with the tools and opportunities to pursue their dreams. Like so many New Jerseyans, my family and I have struggled to find housing that meets our needs and that we can afford. Like so many New Jerseyans, I know what it's like to have a full-time job but still worry about paying the bills. That’s why as mayor I passed rent control that helped hard-working families secure a better quality of life. By investing in public education, helping small businesses grow, and making sure our economy works for regular people we can create an environment that improves the lives of those hard-working people that drive our economy in the first place. Now's the time for leadership that reflects our communities — and I'm ready for the job.
To Steve Sweeney, hard work, public service, and a devotion to one’s community – especially those most vulnerable – aren’t abstract ideas; they are deep convictions. Born in Camden and raised in Pennsauken, and with a background as an ironworker, Steve learned what it means to put in a hard day’s work. Tough days on the job shaped Steve into the fighter he would become for organized labor, workers' rights, and working families. But he was called to serve New Jerseyans after battling through challenges when his daughter was born with Down Syndrome. Steve became a champion for people with disabilities and everyone in his community, serving on the Gloucester County Board of Chosen Freeholders from 1997 to 2010 and as State Senator from 2002 to 2021. As Senator, Steve authored New Jersey’s Paid Family Leave program, working to ensure parents have the resources they need to take time with their children – something he values deeply after spending nearly two months in the hospital with his newborn daughter. Elected Senate President in 2009, Steve delivered property tax relief, pension system reforms, and minimum wage increases to help New Jerseyans make ends meet. He also advanced education reform, including for special-needs students, strengthened law enforcement’s ability to protect children from sex offenders, and sponsored legislation to provide equal pay for women and equal marriage rights for the LGBTQ+ community. Steve believes New Jersey is worth fighting for. He entered public office over two decades ago to make a difference in the lives of all New Jerseyans, and has a record of delivering results for our families. But the fight isn’t over. That’s why Steve is asking for your support in his campaign for governor.
